Our Approach

Education First. Always.

Tiyivo was built on a single principle: people who enjoy physical activity as a hobby deserve clear, non-prescriptive food education that actually speaks to their lives.

Why Casual Activity Deserves Its Own Lens

There's a wide gap between elite sport nutrition science and the everyday reality of someone who hikes on Saturdays or cycles to clear their head after work. Tiyivo exists in that gap.

Research in nutritional science often focuses on trained athletes or clinical populations. But the person who does a two-hour hike every other weekend has different questions. They want to understand why they feel sluggish mid-trail, or why they're ravenous after a bike ride. Those questions deserve thoughtful, grounded answers.

This course doesn't translate elite sport science down to a hobbyist level. It starts from the hobbyist's experience and builds understanding from there.

Educational, Not Prescriptive

Every lesson is framed as "here's what research suggests" rather than "here's what you should do." The goal is awareness, not instruction.

Grounded in Real Activity

Examples come from actual leisure scenarios: a morning run before breakfast, a long Saturday hike, a casual cycling club ride.

Our Principles

What Guides Every Lesson

A

Clarity Over Complexity

Nutritional science can be dense. Tiyivo translates concepts into plain language without losing accuracy. If a term needs explaining, it gets explained.

B

Context Matters

A two-hour hike and a 20-minute jog are different activities with different energy profiles. The course acknowledges that context shapes how food relates to movement.

C

No Absolutes

Individual responses to food vary widely. The course presents general patterns observed in research rather than universal rules that apply to everyone equally.

D

Respect for Autonomy

Learners are adults capable of making their own choices. Tiyivo provides information and frameworks, not prescriptions. What you do with the knowledge is up to you.

How the Course Is Structured

Tiyivo is delivered as a self-paced online course. Modules are designed to be completed in short sessions — suitable for busy schedules built around hobbies, not the other way around.

Each module combines explanatory content with reflection prompts. These aren't tests or quizzes. They're invitations to connect what you've read to your own experience as an active person.

The course is organized into four main areas: energy fundamentals, hydration awareness, meal timing patterns, and activity-specific contexts. Within each area, examples draw from hiking, cycling, running, and recreational sports scenarios.
